about

Naming an album is always a bit difficult. And we all know AMS. Is a bit grandiose.

Over the course of the last 7 months, AMS. had FIVE different names for this project. It was a bigger deal than most, as it would represent a "return to form" for the Chicago-based rapper. Since the release of his two-track project "The Over/Under EP," there was always the question of what was next.

He often jokes that this project "felt haunted." Years of trial-and-error, hard drive failures, and life changes made the idea of releasing another album seem more daunting than not. Then, like a bolt from the blue, his father gave the suggestion:

"Lots of artists did 'name titled' albums, right? Why not try that?"

Initially, using his first name seemed a bit weird. And would bring on further weird, as his personal rule still held -- you don't call him by his first name, unless you're family or have known him longer than 15 years. This was a nod of respect to the THREE Edwards that came before him. But now, here he was with a good idea.

And once the name clicked, as did the album. "Edward." is AMS. first full-length album in nearly 10 years, and it doesn't sound like anything has been lost in that time. Ranging from a vocal-fried growl to weave the childhood story behind "1984/8100" to the all-too-familiar self-roasting cadence of "Six Years of Bad Luck." AMS.'s ability to weave a tapestry of breath control, story-telling, and clever subtle punches is accompanied by a style of Rapping that feels like it'll lose balance at any moment, but sticks the landing every time.

A hearty welcome back for AMS. the nerd king.
